Inventory Management

Basic American Foods, 1992-1994

Throughout the United States

Activity: System-wide Inventory Reduction

Product: Dehydrated Potatoes, Onions, & Garlic

Description: Worked with son of the owner, EVP, to reduce finished goods inventories system-wide–  6-factories, 1-Central Distribution Center, 5-Distribution Centers.  Reduced finished goods inventories by 60%, simultaneously causing reductions in raw material, packaging, and ingredients inventories.  CFO said cash flowing in, but nothing flowing out since inventory not required.  Factories stopped producing for 6-weeks.   In the end, sons of owners used generated cash to purchase firm from father.

Factory Renovation/Modernization

Dole Food Company, 1987-1989

Product: Processed Pineapple

Description: Honolulu pineapple factory upgrade. Included upgrades to material handling equipment, packaging and processing systems, warehousing, and can manufacturing. Consolidation freed-up real estate for development.

Tomato Peeler & Conveying
Systems Upgrade 

ConAgra Brands (Hunt Food Company), 1995-1996

Product: Processed Tomatoes

Description: Peeling Systems Upgrade. Included new FMC peelers, upstream/downstream conveying systems, and Foxboro plc control systems. Payback achieved in 59-days of 90-day season.
