Changed Management, ag practices, and approached industry standard cost/carton until the project was infected with Fusarium/TR-4 disease in 2014.

Description: Because of the structure of the Chiquita contract, Rift Valley was unable to sell any of its Class A bananas when producing under 30-containers per week to Chiquita. So, forced to find alternatives. Contacted many but ended up contracting with the Arjomandi Group in Iran. Every week paid based on shipments and not receipt of goods, which helped the project immensely. In 2013, new contract negotiated with Dole.

Description: Trialed several crops in an attempt to reinvigorate the business and utilize Grupo Madal’s 11,000-hectares of coconut plantation lands. Concluded very difficult in the current environment, poor soils, and with people’s just exiting a long civil war and living in a survival mode, stealing everything in the Quelimane area.

Description: Rift Valley held 1,100 hectares in Southern Tanzania. Planned to develop an advanced tea estate with advanced irrigation and fertigation systems. Plan included 1,100 fully irrigated tea estate and factory with full-tea operations – 3-lines, withering, rolling, fermenting, drying, grading, sorting, packing, and shipping. Also, boiler, offices, maintenance shop, and storerooms. Project was delayed because of two other important tea projects – 1) new tea factory in Lupembe, Tanzania and 2) tea blending facility in Dar Es Salam, Tanzania.

Discussed joint venture with Sr. Management at TCCC regarding expanding juice production throughout Africa. Rift Valley Juice is the largest supplier to TCCC. TCCC projected that juice demand would increase by 60x by the year 2020. Began extensive work on potential juice projects throughout Africa.

Description: Performed due diligence for potential 5,000-hectare pineapple and mango plantation and corresponding juice aseptic concentrate factory, processing equipment, plantation equipment, and offices/buildings. Worked with CFC and Tanzanian government which was promoting to Rift Valley Corporation a small-holders project scheme. Large lake as a water source. Concluded Rift Valley Corporation had too many other projects, believed that for the project to succeed, at least 80% needed to be grown by Rift Valley, so questionable commercial viability selling commodity-priced pineapple concentrate into the competitive global marketplace and without the standard pineapple canning/value-added factory set-up to maximize recoveries.
